The Joy of Re-reading

The home came to a halt when my little daughter took a nap. We call her Little Tsunami because she is so very active that anyone who meets her will call her the same within 10 minutes of being with her. It’s entirely a different topic to be discussed in great length and width sometimes later.

So, while the little one was sleeping, my older daughter so quickly cleaned and made up the living room. I was surprised by her speed and wondered if she had invited any of her friends to our home. But no. I found her coming to the living area with her favourite book which she already read twice. She pulled a chair to sit on, opened the book with a smile so pleased, and began rereading her favourite book.

It reminded me of Oscar Wilde’s saying that goes like… a good book is one that never gets old even after several reads.

Rereading is fun. It is inexplicably joyful. You feel more connected to the characters. You better appreciate the upcoming known secret with a smug little smile. It’s a new kind of thrill, don’t ask me in detail, just experience it, you will know why and how.

I have a big list of books that stay in the personal library forever. I proudly passed them on to my girls. There is always one most favourite book that you cannot afford to lose.

My little girl’s favourite book is Tikki Tikki Tembo, and her favourite characters are Pocoyo and Charlie. I have read out loud the Pocoyo series, and Charlie & Lola series for more than 1000 times to her. She would be waiting to laugh out loud when the fun part is about to come. That’s a delightful experience every time.

Speaking of my daughters' rereading fun, I feel a sudden surge of emotions towards my favourites. My all time favourites are Pride and Prejudice, and Gone with the Wind.

I do enjoy rereading my favourite classics. I am thinking of bringing to my study table the winter classics for rereading this season.
